first story in

I finished my story by my target time (9:00 pm Monday). It’s not due until 9:00 am Tuesday. It will be critiqued sometime after 9:00 am Wednesday.

I turned it in about half an hour ago.

Approximately 6,500 words.

Six-and-a-half-thousand very mannered words, full of commas and arch speech, telling a love story.

It has a happy ending.

Well, as happy as I can write.

It was a challenge to myself to do something so stylized. It’s a first draft, of course, but I hope that the bones of it are strong.

Writing it, with the early scenes narrative-rich and dialogue-poor, made me forget how much I enjoy writing dialogue until I got to the last third of it, where it opens up in that way. Yeesh, I’ve got to write more dialogue as a general rule–although this was being told a specific way, so it’s an exception to that.

God. They are so going to tear it up.

Which is good. But.

Ay. Now I still have to do my critiques for tomorrow. Luckily, it’s a three story day.

Sleep would be nice.
